Chinese New Year Cards by Lena

Chinese New Year Cards by Lena

This year Chinese New Year will fall on January 23. I have many friends (and myself too) from this culture, so I'm getting busy making these greeting cards!

1. Die cut the frame using the die. Note that this die set is pretty delicate, and after many experiments I learned that by adding a shim (a thin metal plate, or even just a piece of paper or 2) in my cutting sandwich, it would cut much better and would result into crisp and clean cut images.

2. Create the image to be used inside of the frame. Here I used a discontinued stamp that I found a long time ago. If you would like to use Chinese characters but don't have Chinese stamps or couldn't find them, I would recommend searching for "Chinese New Year characters" in Google Image, then you could download and print characters on card stocks, then go from there. (You could also use non-Chinese characters. For example, in my final step photos I used a "Hello" die instead.)

3. Die cut some flowers as decorations. I used the Spellbinders Rose Buds, but any flowers dies or stamps could work. I like this set because they are pretty versatile, and I can make complicated roses with them, or a simple quick flower.

4. I used Lawn Fawn sentiments to decorate the card base, then I added all of the pieces together.

5. Assemble the pieces into a card. For Chinese New Year, red and gold are the primary colors; so if your card is made primarily with these two colors, it will turn out very festive. But you could also try other color combinations, and the results would be just as fun!
