Happy Mother’s day! featuring Lawn Fawn’s Spring Release

Posted by Colleen Beamish on

Hello there! This is Colleen Beamish from @humorbean_cards. Today I’m sharing a cheerful Mother’s Day card featuring some adorable critters and oversized florals! I love creating scenes with Lawn Fawn dies, and the Lawn Fawn Big Blossom Portrait Die made the perfect backdrop for this playful garden.

One of my favorite ways to add interest to a card is by layering color, and for this project I tried something a little different. Instead of cutting the background pieces from plain cardstock, I cut all of the background elements from patterned paper from the Bitsy Blooms Petite Paper Pack. The subtle patterns already add texture, but I took it one step further by ink blending over the patterned paper with Distress Oxide Ink. This technique adds extra depth and shading while still allowing the pattern to show through.

The star of this card is the adorable critter scene from the Lawn Fawn A Mole Lot of Flowers Stamp Set. I colored the images with Copic markers to coordinate with the bright pink flowers and soft green leaves in the background. To finish the scene, I reached into my Lawn Fawn stash and added a few extra elements to round everything out.

Once the scene was assembled, I adhered all of the critter components with foam adhesive to make them pop from the floral background. And then, the final step was to add highlight details using a white gel pen.

This project was such a fun reminder that patterned paper isn’t just for backgrounds. Try die cutting shapes from it and layering ink blending on top—you’ll get beautiful depth with minimal effort.

Be sure to watch the process video over on the Scrapbook Pal YouTube channel to see this entire card come together.

Happy Crafting!
